Class Policies

Welcome! These policies create a fun, safe, and effective learning environment for you and your dog. Please read through all policies so you are fully prepared. We look forward to seeing you in class!

Before You Enroll

Age Requirements

  • Handlers: Must be at least 14 years old
  • Handlers under 18: Must be accompanied by an adult
  • Children attending: Must be at least 5 years old
Important: Parents must supervise children at all times during class.

Vaccination Requirements

All dogs must be current on vaccinations:
  • Puppies (under 20 weeks): At least one round of DHPP
  • Adult dogs: Current DHPP and Rabies

Proof required: Dogs cannot attend without vaccination records. Email records to or bring them to the first class.

Registration & Payment

How to Enroll

  • Class sizes are limited
  • Advance registration required
  • Submit enrollment form

Before enrolling, consider: your schedule, your dog’s readiness, and your commitment to training.

Payment

Due: At time of enrollment

Online options:

  • Credit card
  • PayPal
  • Venmo

Mail-in option: Check or cash (must arrive 5+ days before class)

Returned checks: $15 fee applies

Refunds & Changes

Refunds & Transfers

  • Deadline: At least 5 business days before class begins
  • How to request: Email (written request required)
  • Processing fee: 25% if refund is granted
No refunds: Once class begins or for missed classes

Injury or Illness During Session

If your dog cannot continue due to injury or illness, you’ll receive credit toward a future class for the number of classes missed.

Class Cancellations by TPBP

Rescheduled classes: 1+ day advance notice

Canceled due to low enrollment: Choose one option:

  • Enroll in a different class
  • Receive credit toward future session
  • Request full refund

Weather Policy

Bad weather may postpone class to the following week (trainer’s discretion).

Class Policies

Attendance

  • No make-up classes available
  • Missing class: Check with instructor about what you’ll miss
  • No refunds for missed classes
  • Missing 2+ classes: Consider enrolling in a later session

Behavior Policy

We may decline entry to dogs that present safety concerns or whose behavior may worsen in a group setting.

If issues arise during class: Trainer may recommend private sessions instead. Your class fee will be applied to the private session (additional fees may apply based on evaluation).

Class Operations

  • Schedule: Weekly, same day and time
  • Duration: One hour per session
  • Arrival: Please be on time
  • Leash requirement: Dogs must remain leashed and supervised
  • No harsh handling tolerated
  • Dogs in heat: May not attend
  • Dog interactions: Do not allow your dog to approach other dogs
  • Cleanup: Handlers must clean up after their dogs
Dismissal policy: Aggressive or disruptive dogs may be dismissed from class

What to Bring

Dog Preparation

  • Exercise your dog before class
  • Bathroom break before class
  • If near mealtime: Feed only half a meal (keeps dog motivated)

Treats & Rewards

✓ Bring These Treats:

  • Tiny, soft, chewy treats
  • Hot dogs, chicken, freeze-dried liver, string cheese
  • Small toy (plush, tug) if your dog likes toy rewards
Don’t bring: Dry food or biscuits – they’re not motivating enough in class

Equipment

✓ Required Equipment:

  • Leash: 4-6 foot nylon or leather
  • Collar: Martingale or flat collar (buckle/clip style)
Not allowed:
  • Retractable (flexi) leashes
  • Prong, choke, or shock collars

Optional humane walking tools: Front-clip harness or head collar
